School Visits

My talks aim to inspire.
Whether an aspiring reader, writer, artist/illustrator -  or none of those, students will gain new perspectives and a sense of connection to literature.

I love to see students get excited about story-telling and be inspired to write their own or to pick up a book for pleasure.

My interactive talk goes behind the scenes of working in TV and the similarities to creating a book, which draws in readers and non-readers alike.
I also explore how the things that go wrong can sometimes turn out for the best and talk about the process of how I created my novel. Students have the opportunity for a Q&A.

My creative writing workshops for stage 2 and 3 use fantasy themes and verse novel excerpts to explore story structure, point of view, rich descriptions, world building and more. Students will enjoy role play and lively discussion as they are guided to create their own world and bring it to life on the page.
As a literacy ambassador, my visits encourage students to gain new perspectives and a fun sense of connection to the written word. I love crafting stories from picture book texts to novels and particularly enjoy crafting in verse  (more news about that soon!)

Author Talk :
Based on my experience in the world of TV, this is a light, fun talk engaging readers and movie fans alike. Talk includes:

  • My creative journey to finally becoming an author.
  • What writing books has in common with the world of film & television.
  • Inspiration for my work.
  • General process of book writing (yes, you need to edit!)
  • Funny bits – a reading.
  • Questions – The tricky ones, the awkward ones and the ones that make you go wow!
